Narrately is a service that reads the books you upload aloud. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and name, and your profile picture if you sign in with Google. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider, Clerk. We only receive your basic profile; we never see your Google password.
- Books you upload: the original file, the text we extract from it, and its cover image. Your books are private to your account.
- Listening data: your reading position, chosen narrator voice, and how much narration you generate (used for your monthly allowance).
- Activity records: uploads, deletions, downloads and account changes, kept so the administrator can run the service and help with problems.
- On your device: reading preferences (theme, font, focus aids) and any books you download for offline listening are stored in your browser, not on our servers.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep your library, position and settings in sync across devices.
- To turn your books into narration. Text is sent to our text-to-speech provider to generate audio.
- To enforce access and fair-use allowances, and to keep the service secure.
Who processes your data
- Clerk: accounts and sign-in.
- Vercel: hosts the website.
- Cloudflare R2: stores books, covers and narration audio.
- Upstash: stores your library list, reading position, preferences and usage counts.
- OpenRouter and the voice model it routes to: receives book text to generate narration audio.
Narration audio is stored by the exact text and voice, so identical text is only narrated once. That audio contains no account information.
Keeping and deleting your data
- Deleting a book moves it to Recently deleted. It's removed permanently after 30 days, or immediately if you choose “Delete permanently”.
- Downloads on your device can be removed at any time from the Downloads page.
- To delete your account and all your books, email support@mytrya.com and we'll do it within 30 days.
Google user data
If you sign in with Google, Narrately receives only your name, email address and profile picture, and uses them solely to identify your account. We don't access any other Google data, and we don't share it with anyone except the sign-in provider listed above.
